Saturday February 22, 2025 9:00am - 9:40am PST

Starting with a vision, a willing teacher, and a space, we created an elementary STREAM room to engage our students in a weekly, hands-on learning experience. Ask us how it’s going! Technology classes at our high school include a multimedia class teaching digital design principles through Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as well as the rarely offered AP CSA, coding in Java.  Our students learn relevant technology skills they will use for the rest of their personal and professional lives. New this year, we are engaging our students in sports media.  They learn to plan, design, and operate our 2 Daktronics video scoreboards.  These scoreboards are used in many universities and professional stadiums.

Connecting STEM Disciplines through Data
Saturday February 22, 2025 9:50am - 11:05am PST
Data is a key part of the engineering design process, of scientific discovery in NGSS, and of mathematics.  Being able to analyze, interpret, and communicate about data is a key skill for students to be ready for career and civic engagement.  Because it’s a part of so much of student's education, it’s important to have strategies to help students work with data.

The SJCOE FabLab has been working on tools and activities to help students gather, model with, visualize, process, and explain data. Along with a block-based graphing language, we also have been developing resources tied to the Jupyter Notebook. Try these tools and an activity with us.

Esports Masterclass: From Start to Success
Saturday February 22, 2025 11:15am - 12:30pm PST
In this session, we'll discuss the "why" for esports: Why should your school have an esports team? (Spoiler: It's not just about the glory, but there's a little of that too.) We'll also dive into the “how:” How to build your CIF-certified high school dream team (including the elusive girl gamer!), coach them to victory (or at least good sportsmanship), and even get middle schoolers in on the action with nothing but the Chromebooks already in your classroom (and a little help from the IT department unlocking sites). Finally, we'll chat about the “Oops:” Learn from our mistakes over the past three years of building a program from scratch. (We've crashed and burned so you don't have to!) Bonus: Q&A: Bring your burning questions, your own esports stories to share, and your sense of humor. This promises not to be a total noob experience.
